BIOGRAPHY
VVARD (also known as Verena Ward) is a Dutch/Indonesian singer, songwriter, and producer. Coming from a conservative family, and growing up queer in The Netherlands, she started writing and producing music about love and anxieties in her bedroom studio.
VVARD’s one-woman show made sure she was powerful enough to support acts such as Baio (bassist of the indie rock band Vampire Weekend), Dream Wife, LAUREL, and pop sensation HRVY. The former 3VOOR12 talent describes her sound as “an experimental dreamy indie-pop that you don’t hear quite often.”
VVARD's musical influences include The xx, girl in red, King Princess, and Vampire Weekend. Her songs are about love and heartbreaks within the LGBTQ+ community and her constant battle with mental health and suicidal thoughts. This led to the ‘I’m so tired EP’ that Ward worked on with producer Sascha Meijer.
The EP was a project made in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and with social distancing kept in mind, the record was created from bedroom to bedroom.
